A Busy Week Ahead

We have a lot going on this week. Alaina's reconnection surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. When she had her first operation back in October, the surgeons removed two pieces of her small intestine and because of the infection she had, they left three separate sections. Now that the infection has cleared up and her intestines have had a chance to heal, it's time to put them back together again. We've been looking forward to the day she'd be reconnected for the past two months but now that it's here, it's hard not to be scared. Alaina is more than twice the size and much healthier than she was the first time which is a good thing but it's still a major surgery and she's still our little baby. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

Not to be outdone by he little sister, there's a good chance Gabrielle could be home by Sunday! With the holiday last week, I haven't had a chance to update everyone on her progress so here you go. She was moved into an open crib right before Thanksgiving and loves her new digs. This is the home she was in before:

Gaby's 5 pounds 15 ounces and almost fits into newborn clothes now. She got this onesie and the one above from Auntie Kathryn and she just about fills them out.



The goal this week is for her to take all of her feeds by bottle. Once she goes 48 hours without needing to get milk via her feeding tube, it's time for her to come home! She still gets tired during her last couple of feeds but hopefully in a day or two she'll have it down. Gaby loves her bottle, especially when she's getting fed by her daddy.




We've been really busy getting everything prepared for Gabrielle to come home. The nursery is done, the car seats have been installed and we even put up and decorated the Christmas tree. We cannot wait for the doctors to tell us she's ready.

So this is a big week for us. After her surgery, Alaina will be on the road to recovery. It will be a long road, but a least she'll be on her way. And even if Gabrielle doesn't come home this week, we know she'll be with us very soon. It's hard to believe, but our lives could be back to normal - or as normal as life can be with infant twins - very soon!
