When we went to visit the Gabrielle and Alaina yesterday morning, the doctor told us that they would be removing both of their PICC lines later in the day. We were ecstatic! Removing the PICC lines not only reduces the chance of the infection and means the girls are doing really well with their feedings, it also means we finally get to hold them. We were so excited to go back for our evening visit and pick up our little ones for the very first time. But when we got there last night, the PICC lines were still in. The doctors wanted Alaina to finish her TPN feeding* and Gabrielle to get her dose of antibiotics before they removed the lines later that night. After spending the day looking forward to finally getting to hold the girls, it was a disappointment but we were relieved that nothing was wrong and the lines were still coming out. The girls should be PICC-free when I get there today! Hopefully, we'll have more details and pictures of the girls out of their Isolettes later this afternoon....
*I added a new section to the blog yesterday called NICU Lingo that defines all these crazy new terms we're using. You can find it to the left of the posts.
