Multiple Milestones

The girls are developing so fast it's hard to keep up. Since I have a pseudo-medical background, I will segment today's update by body part. For the MDs among you, try not to snicker. For everyone else, rest assured that I mostly know what I am talking about:

Teeth

Two of Gaby's lower teeth came in recently, and both are now growing faster than my hair. Kind of like gerbil teeth. We think two of her uppers may be coming in too because she is decidedly more cranky than usual. Nothing yet from Alaina, but we expect to see something soon since she has been fussier as well. Both girls are making a lot more noise than usual and putting them to bed has been taking more time than it did just a week ago.

Occasionally, one of the girls will chomp down on our finger - which now hurts. For parents, or people that have been bitten by a puffer fish, you know what I am talking about.

Legs & Arms

Gaby started to crawl recently and she is getting better by the day. Alaina is more of a roller, but she manages a rapid clip nonetheless. The "baby jail" we ordered came at just the right time, and we plopped it down after a quick survey of our place. It is fairly large sitting in our apartment but it definitely gives us peace of mind, and the girls absolutely love it. As usual, Fiona thinks we bought her yet another toy to play with and has been very appreciative.

PS - The girls' new locomotive skills now make diaper changing an Olympic sport! No pictures obviously, but definitely a funny story or two.

Digestive System

The girls are making very good progress moving to solids and we are steadily weaning them off formula. Alaina, who we were all worried about months ago, eats like a champ and would happily devour anything and everything you put in front of her. Just like a dog. Or a garbage disposal. And she is tolerating everything very well. Better than a dog, or garbage disposal. We are still keeping a close eye on her just in case, and we are taking things slow for now.

For a while Gaby was less enthusiastic, but she has now joined the clean plate (bowl) club. Considering how expensive the girls' formula is (Alaina's more so) every spoonful of solids we feed them is money in the bank!

I have no idea where she got this from.

Face:

The girls officially look VERY different from each other, and strangers rarely tell us how similar they look.

Mass:

Whatever concern we had regarding Alaina's ability to put on weight is rapidly dissipating. She now weighs about half a pound MORE than Gaby. We are not out of the woods yet with Alaina, but she is doing better than we ever expected given her early complications.

Yes I know mass is not a body part.
